Lithuanian National Union of Students (LSS) was established in 1991. It is the highest, independent, non-governmental, democratic, national student organisation that unites student self-governing bodies of Lithuania higher education institutions (HEI) and represents and defends the interests and rights of students.

LSS has 13 full members and 2 observers, LSS represents and defends 190 000 Lithuanian students on the highest level regarding issues related to social and economic welfare, creation and improvement of educational policies, academic and other issues of importance for students. In order to realise these goals LSS organises national and international events and actions, which help to attract the public attention to the existing problems, to create and develop educational policies and to promote international and intercultural co-operation.

LSS organises the strengthening and broadening of the contacts with governmental institutions, the development of close communication with local, national and international organisations in the sphere of a common interest.
