ESU is an official member of the European Youth Forum. With a mission to defend the rights of young people across Europe, The European Youth Forum (YFJ) is a platform made up of 99 National Youth Councils and international youth NGOs from across Europe. The YFJ works to empower young people to participate actively in society and improve their living conditions by representing their interests towards the European Institutions, the Council of Europe, the United Nations and other partners active in the youth field.  ESU is proud to have a strong partnership with the Council of Europe. The Council of Europe, based in Strasbourg (France), now covers virtually the entire European continent, with its 47 member countries. Founded on 5 May 1949 by 10 countries, the Council of Europe seeks to develop throughout Europe common and democratic principles based on the European Convention on Human Rights and other reference texts on the protection of individuals.
