Dear friends, February has been a typically busy month for European Student Union representatives, with our volunteers present at an ever increasing number of external events and working hard on a host of projects. On top of this ordinary flurry of activity, ESU is excited to announce the launch of our European Commission funded Equity project which will span the next two years. The kick-off meeting was a success and the collaboration between the different partners clearly fruitful. You can read more about the project and our aims below. As we prepare to send out this newsletter in the opening days of March, it would be a shame not to mention the European Qualifications Agency Register (EQAR) which was officially launched in Brussels on March the 4th , with the E4 partners (ESU, EUA, EURASHE & ENQA) putting pen to paper and signing the official statutes. This register will present all those Quality Assurance Agencies which respect the European Standards & Guidelines, as agreed at the Ministerial Summit in Bergen (2005). ESU chairperson, Koen Geven, shortly took the floor to express his satisfaction that this project had come to light, pointing out the importance of quality assurance for European Students in order to ensure that their needs and expectations are fully met in the years to come. He also outlined his satisfaction at the student participation in the creation of this register. Lesley Wilson, Director of the European University Association (EUA), will be the first designated chairperson of the register, with ESU’s Anne Mikkola as one of two Vice-chairs.
The Let’s Go campaign detailed in our January edition of The Student Voice, is gathering steam with the campaign website filling up nicely as ours and Education Internationals’ members start to hop on board. Please remember to check www.letsgocampaign.net regularly for up to date information on our efforts to promote student and staff mobility across Europe.
