14. February 2006.

The politicians responsible for education from all four political parties denied clearly the introduction of tuition fee.

April 2006.

Following the elections, the outgoing minister of education (Bálint Magyar) described a model imported from Australia called " follow-up educational contribution" . The main point is that the students do not pay the costs of instructions during their education term but they have to do it after taking a diploma, being employed and reaching a determined income.

27. May 2006.

The General Assembly of HÖOK accepted a statement without a vote against in which we refused all forms of tuition fee.

11. July 2006.

According to the decision of the board: If the parliament is passing the qualifying bill of higher education law, which obliges the state-financed students to pay any tuition fee-like contribution, our NUS will start the preparation of a student demonstration.

24. July 2006.

The parliament of the Hungarian Republic passed the modification of the law and the tuition fee also. The HÖOK started to prepare the demonstration…

The HÖOK made an alternative proposal on tuition fee which was adopted by the General Assembly. In this the state-financed students have to pay the 3-5% of the student norm (this is the sum what the Ministry of Education pays to the higher education institutions after every student per semester) in BA and in the first 6 semester of undivided training or rather the 4-6% of the norm in MA and in the last 4 semester of undivided training after credits for which they entered but didn't completed. The HÖOK was waiting for the answer of the Ministry until the 17th of October at noon and paralell we were preparing a demonstration in Budapest.

17. October 2007.

The Ministry dismissed the proposal so we demonstrated in Budapest!

18. October 2007.

The HÖOK was started talks with Ministry of Education to size up the alternative proposal for tuition fee. Our aim were to give the repeal of the tuition fee as a gift for Christmas.

19.dec.07

We didn't come to an arrangement so the gift would not arrive at students.

23. January 2008.

The president of the republic appointed the date of the referendum.

9. February 2008.

The campaign was started. The HÖOK made 3 different posters and flyers, and passed this to all local union in Hungary (a matter of 15000 posters and 55000 flyers).

9. March 2008.

The referendum successful, the hungarian society repealed with 3.307.315 votes the tuition fee!
