Dear Friends,
The European Students’ Union is gearing up for its 55th Board Meeting in Sofia, Bulgaria next month. Close to 100 national student representatives will gather to review the last 6 months of ESU’s work and to outline the priorities for the coming half year.
Ligia Deca will be attending her first Board Meeting as Chairperson and is looking forward to presenting the results of her work thus far: “During the course of the last few months, we have pushed through the student priorities in the Bologna Follow Up Group discussions and we are fighting to put student issues in the spotlight within the Bologna post-2010 framework. We have also made great strides into reestablishing regional student platforms working with the UN”.
October saw ESU and EI members and representatives gather in Lille for the Validation Conference of the ‘Let’s Go’ Mobility Campaign. This was a resounding success and will hopefully not end there. We are urging as many people as possible to continue to support the aims of this campaign: 20% of mobility by 2020.
ESU has honored its recently formalised association with OBESSU (the Organising Bureau of School Student Unions) by launching a joint campaign on student rights –Light on the Rights. Both OBESSU and ESU have formal charters outlining school students and higher education students’ rights. In the build up to the European Parliament elections in June next year, both organizations will work hard to ensure that these rights are considered by the governing bodies on a local but also international level.
Finally, we are delighted to welcome a new member of staff to the ESU secretariat. Frances Aldson joined us in October as the new Information & Communications Officer. Originally from the UK, Frances has lived in Brussels for the past two years. She has previous NGO and campaigning experience and we are sure that she has a lot to offer ESU. She replaces Bea Uhart so please update your address books and do not hesitate to contact her if you need any information about ESU’s activities.
Until next month.
