The ESU Secretariat has been bolstered this week with the arrival of a new ICO (Information and Communications Officer), Frances Aldson. After a brief insight into ESU and the world of higher education at the European level at the 'Let's Go' conference in Lille last week, Frances officially joined the team on Tuesday (14th October). Originally from the UK, Frances is now well-accustomed to Brussels life, and climate, having lived there since October 2006. After studying French and Politics at the University of Sheffield, she started her career in the NGO sector as a campaigns officer for a national homelessness charity, before moving into the environmental sector and spending two years as a regional coordinator at Friends of the Earth. The opportunity to work at the European Parliament for a year proved to be too tempting, and Frances moved to Brussels to work in one of the many branches of the European Institutions, before taking 6 months out to fulfill a lifetime ambition and travel the world. 'I'm excited to have joined such a dynamic, truly international and democratic organisation such as ESU," Frances says. "There are a lot of challenges ahead in terms of developing our internal and external communications, and I'm looking forward to getting stuck in to meeting them."
