The AAC is a new committee set up at BM53 in Lithuania responsible for developing expertise and representation regarding academic affairs. It deals with issues such as quality assurance, qualifications frameworks, ECTS and student centred learning. It monitors these developments, produce policies and develop external strategies to promote these. It will be able to promote the paradigm shift that we are pushing for in higher education generally.

According to ESU’s standing orders, the positions in this committee must be gender balanced meaning two females and two male must be elected.

Among other tasks, members of  the AAC will be responsible for:

•    The work within the so-called ‘E4-group’ (with ENQA, EUA and Eurashe)

•    The work regarding reforms of degree structures and the implementation of the ECTS system

•    The work on the European Qualifications Framework

•    Organising the quality assurance forum

•    Organising ESU’s involvement in EUA’s Institutional Evaluation Programme

•    Organising ESU’s involvement in the reviews of national quality assurance agencies

•    Organising ESU’s involvement in the European Register for Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education (the so-called ‘EQAR’)

•    Participating in general political discussions about the European Higher Education Area within ESU.
