Visa liberalisation for Macedonian youth PDF Print E-mail

Proposed by : NSUM (Macedonia)

Adopted at : Board Meeting 56

The new Berlin Wall, called a visa regime, has been preventing the Macedonian youth from being able to travel freely within the European Union for the last 18 years. This decision directly breaches the guaranteed human right for the freedom of movement. Even though the Republic of Macedonia has made significant efforts and fulfilled the criteria set out in the Road Map for Visa Liberalisation constituted by the European Union, we are witnessing a highly discriminatory act as the promised visa liberalisation continues to be postponed.

And again the Macedonian youth waits at the counters of the European embassies;

And again the Macedonian youth faces the problems of letters of guarantee, certificates, documents, insurances;

And again the Macedonian youth remains separated from its peers across borders;

And again the Macedonian youth is treated like European second-class citizens.

With a view to raising the voice of students against this visa regime and making the European institutions and public aware of the problems that Macedonian youth face with, ESU is asking the European Commission to give visa liberalisation for Macedonian young people until the end of June 2009.

Let’s tear down the visa wall!  No visas for the Macedonian youth!
