OBESSU and ESIB School students and Students OBESSU and ESIB are the European umbrella organisations of learners. Aiming at representing these learners to all relevant European organisations such as the European Union, UNESCO and the Council of Europe, we cooperate on all areas of work. Naturally, school students often become tertiary students, and thus both have a shared set of student rights and interests. Education policies, such as the “Education and Training 2010” work programme, affect the secondary and tertiary education systems we study in directly. We believe, that making these policies effective means that the voice of learners should be heard and translated into better proposals. Being learners ourselves, we have direct experiences with the implementation of any decision related to education. Giving input from our experiences European-wide, we can thus contribute to a desired increase of the quality of the European policy discussion. The implementation of the Education and Training work programme hasn’t reached full speed yet. School students and students can contribute to a successful implementation of agreed goals. Both OBESSU and ESIB have proven to provide more momentum for change, since many of our members are parts of school and university management systems. Together, we are committed to be a partner in the European Union’s “Education and Training 2010” work programme. ESIB – The National Unions of Students in Europe is the umbrella organisation of 45 national unions of students from 34 countries. Together, it represents more than ten million students towards the European Union, UNESCO, the Council of Europe and other relevant European actors in the field of higher education. It is a consultative member of the Bologna Process and is often consulted on any issue dealing with higher education in Europe. OBESSU – the Organising Bureau of School Student Unions is the umbrella organisation of national school student unions active in general secondary and secondary vocational education in Europe. It brings together members and observers of more than 25 European countries. OBESSU stands together to represents the views of the school students in Europe towards the different education institutions and platforms.
