Education, Science and Culture Trade Union of Slovenia
The Education, Science and Culture Trade Union of Slovenia was established in 1990 and nowadays has 39.000 members. Whilst at the very beginning of its existence focusing mostly on the realization of its members’ primary needs (salaries, enforcement of collective agreements and other employee rights), SVIZ later shifted its attention more towards legislation (collaboration with the government, ministries and other organizations in order to prepare new legislation for sectors SVIZ covers). Today, SVIZ dedicates much of its work to professional issues, concerning not only salaries and working conditions, but also pedagogical aspects of their work as well.
SVIZ is a co-founder of Education International (EI) and has been its member since 1993. With Slovenia joining the EU on 1 May 2004, SVIZ also became a member of the European Trade Union Committee for Education (ETUCE).
